They were the best midfield combo in world rugby in their day, and turns out they can sing too.

The All Blacks social media team released an epic retro video on Thursday, where legendary New Zealand midfield duo Conrad Smith and Ma’a Nonu, and ex-All Blacks coach Steve Hansen sing along to Don McLean’s classic, American Pie.

Hansen also shows off his musical prowess, thumping the bongo drums while belting out the lyrics.

“We thought it was about time we showed the internet this video…enjoy,” The All Blacks posted on Twitter.

Smith and Nonu are regarded by many as the greatest midfield combination in world rugby, playing 62 tests together as a combination. They were also the midfield pairing for the Hurricanes for many years in Super Rugby.

They were key members of the All Blacks’ Rugby World Cup winning sides in 2011 and 2015, starting alongside each other in both finals.

The All Blacks’ video from yesteryear came at a good time as New Zealand brings up their first full week of the four-week lockdown, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Brilliant. This is exactly what we need to see while in lockdown,” one user wrote on Twitter.

“Thank you for this. Sincerely,” added another.
